HONDA’s Journey and New Models in its EV Space

When did it all start for Honda?

The journey of Honda in the electric vehicle (EV) market started back in 1997 with the introduction of the Honda EV Plus, a small electric car with a range of around 80 miles (130 km). However, due to low demand and high costs, the company had to discontinue the production of the EV Plus in 1999.

Gap of 13 Years

After a long hiatus, Honda returned to the EV market with the launch of the Honda Fit EV in 2012. This subcompact car had a range of around 82 miles (132 km) on a single charge.

In 2017, Honda launched the Clarity Electric, a midsize sedan with a range of around 89 miles (143 km) on a single charge.

In 2019, Honda launched the Honda e, a small and stylish electric car designed for urban driving. This car has a range of around 137 miles (220 km) on a single charge and is available in select markets in Europe and Japan.

Hybrid Options

Apart from these fully electric cars, Honda also offers hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of its popular models, including the Honda Accord, Honda CR-V, and Honda Insight.

Future Plans for Carbon Neutrality

Looking ahead of the current EV trends, Honda plans to launch more electric and hybrid vehicles in the coming years, as part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The company has set a target of having electric vehicles account for two-thirds of its global sales by 2030.
